MTI Film Uses Rorke Data Galaxy Aurora RAID and SAN Solutions to Support Their Film Restoration and Dailies Processing Software Workflow Requirements

MTI film solutions require high-performance, shared storage. MTI film partnered with Rorke Data, An Avnet Company, to provide their clients with high-speed, high-capacity solutions using Galaxy Aurora RAID and SAN software, replacing their legacy SAN solutions. MTI film chose Rorke based on a proven ability to provide more attractively priced SANs, pre- and post support and storage with greater performance and flexibility than the predecessors. MTI film recently moved to a new facility and now provides in-house services for restoration and film projects. They have a large SAN deployed with over 10 Aurora 24bay RAIDs, doing 2K and 4K projects off of Rorke’s centralized storage.

Crash+Sues – Multi-stream 2K for Film and Video Post

Crash+Sues is a premier end-to-end film and video post house. They had several different types and brands of storage devices supporting their workflow, resulting in an inefficient and decentralized process. Their goal was to simplify their infrastructure by going to a centralized storage solution that would allow for multiple streams of 2K on their Autodesk, Flame and DaVinci color corrector, in addition to multiple servers and Final Cut Pro systems. Rorke Data, an Avnet Company, supplied a 5-seat file-level SAN using three 24TB Rorke Galaxy Aurora RAIDs. Three months later, Crash+Sues easily upgraded their SAN infrastructure with an additional 24TB Aurora RAID, three Final Cut Pro editors and Rorke’s LTO5 archive system. Today, Crash+Sues enjoys mission-critical storage bandwidth with the ability to add both storage capacity and users or new applications when needed.

Thomson Grass Valley- Industry-leading Post and Broadcast OEM Selects Rorke Data’s HyperDrive SAN to Enable Media Archive Conversion

Grass Valley utilized Rorke Data, An Avnet Company’s HyperDrive SAN solution to assist their clients in converting from Avalon to a Front Porch Digital archive solution. Rorke’s Galaxy Aurora RAID allows Grass Valley to cache the data coming off the LTO libraries into the FPD solution. They had 4 DIVA actors attached directly to one Aurora RAID in order to enable a simple, high-speed conversion process. Finally, the ease-of-use factor means the solution is easily transported and redeployed. Now Thomson Grass Valley will literally be able to move their HyperDrive-based SAN conversion solution to other customers around the country, including television stations in North Carolina and Illinois.

Brigham Young University – BYU Film School Replaces AppleXSan/XRaid with Rorke Data’s SimpleSAN Solution

After reading about the SimpleSAN solution on the Rorke Data website, BYU was impressed by the ease-of-use, ease-of-installation solutions, as well as the low total cost of ownership. The features of the Galaxy Aurora RAID, such as Zero Impact RAID Rebuild, Realtime Initiator and Storage bandwidth QOS capability, impressed the film school. Indiana Pacers – Nothing but “Net” Gains in Post Production Workflow Efficiency with Rorke’s SimpleSAN

During a meeting with the Pacers at the Duncan show, Rorke Data, An Avnet Company, discussed the SimpleSAN workflow and how it would decrease their edit-on-the-fly time during a game while increasing efficiency. The Pacers’ goal was to achieve quick edits and the ability to send edited content to the scoreboard for immediate play out. SimpleSAN is also used to edit television commercials and team promos. The Pacers are able to accomplish this with a low-cost, 3-seat SimpleSAN, running CS5 with Ethernet connected clients.
